The power of forests
The power to protect the environment,
nurture lives, and heal the minds of people
We have been planting trees and developing forests since around 1893 in accordance with our belief that the people "who use trees have the responsibility to plant trees."* Created in this way, Oji Forests are expanding across the globe. They are now approximately three times the area of Tokyo.
The trees in Oji Forests do more than just becoming the raw materials of pulp and paper, which is a recyclable material. Forests absorb excess carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen. They protect people from flooding and landslides and deliver clean spring water to the areas around the forests. They are habitats for a wide variety of species. They create healing spaces where people interact with nature.
We will continue our activities to ensure the sound development of Oji Forests,
*Quote from of Ginjiro Fujiwara, a president of the former Oji PaperThe power of products created by forests
The power to increase the convenience and comfort in people's lives
by changing the shape to different products.
Tissue paper, toilet paper, corrugated containers, package paper, newspaper, magazines, copying paper, paper cups and films — our products have supported and continue to support people's everyday lives around the world.
In 1889, we began to make paper products from trees in forests. Since then, we have been creating new products one after another through the development of the communication, wrapping and wiping functions of paper, its basic powers, increasing the convenience and comfort in people's lives in Japan.
In the 1970s, we expanded our business overseas. Today, we have grown into a global company with overseas sales, mainly sales within Asia, accounting for approx. 40% of our total sales. We bring various products into the world from more than 200 production sites in Japan and other countries.
While paper is attracting attention as a renewable material, reflecting the global increase in environmental awareness, we will continue to support everyday life in all countries and regions with a wide variety of products.
The power of the technologies created in forests
The power to solve problems around the world
by being the source of environmentally friendly materials
The 150 years of history of the Oji Group is a history of taking on manufacturing challenges in which we have fully drawn out the power of forests and developed a variety of epoch-making products. It is also a history of solutions to social issues we created using the power of technologies, including being the first to manufacture wood pulp in Japan, establishment of a structure for domestic supply of newsprint, and development of a technology for removing ink that facilitates use of recycled paper.
At present, we focus on the power of wood, which is a renewable resource capable of replacing plastics, films and fuels derived from fossil resources. To solve environmental problems that are growing more serious every year, we are working on innovation rooted in two domains: sustainable packaging and forest biomass business.
We will continue to create new value using the technologies that we have cultivated, with the goal of solving social issues.
