In addition, we use LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) in product or system design for reducing the environmental burden and CO2 emissions from the procurement of raw materials to manufacturing, sales, use, and disposal. We supply a variety of environmentally friendly products and systems to society.
Eco-Friendly Material Development Initiatives
The Oji Group is developing eco-friendly materials to address the issue of plastic in the ocean, a global scale problem, and
to contribute the reduction of CO2 emissions as a measure to fight global warming. By developing paper materials that can
take the places of plastic packaging and biomass plastic materials made from renewable forest resources, the Group
seeks to contribute to the development of a sustainable society.
Development of paper materials as

Development of multi-barrier paper
The Oji Group developed SILBIO※ BARRIER, a multibarrier
paper made from a paper base with a barrier
coating layer, using its water-based coating technologies,
one of the Group’s areas of specialization.
The barrier coating layer prevents water vapor, oxygen,
and other substances from passing through, curtailing
deterioration of the content and maintaining aroma and
Silva means forest in Latin. The name was coined to incorporate the intent to
create eco-friendly products that enrich society using biorefinery technology
SILBIO Barrier was presented at a G20 Summit (held
in Karuizawa-machi, Nagano Prefecture on June 15
and 16, 2019) ministerial meeting as an innovative

Development of biomass plastic raw
Biodegradable plastics have been the subject of
considerable attention in recent years, and much of the
sugar used as a raw material is produced from sugarcane or
corn. There are concerns that sugar produced from edible
resources will result in food competition in relation to global
food supply shortages.

Development of Pulp Composites
By mixing pulp into biodegradable plastic, various properties
including strength and rigidity can be improved.
The Group is conducting research as a means of expanding
applications for biodegradable plastics.

Development of biomass plastic film
Biomass-derived plastic films are expected to be used
for food packaging and an expanding range of other
applications in the future.The Oji Group has commenced
development of distinctive biomass plastic films through
the application of thin film stretch processing technology
accumulated in the development of capacitor films.。
Development of pulp-made Traveler lid
We developed the Traveler lid, a lid made from pulp that is both recyclable and biodegradable, while plastic lids are currently the norm. The interior of the paper cup is laminated with polylactic acid, a biodegradable plastic, and both the lid and cup can be composted.
Oji Fibre Solutions started distributing the lids in New Zealand and Australia a few years ago and is now developing products for the Japanese market.

Cup base paper, Acid-resistant cup base paper
The cup base paper features low impurities and excellent water resistance, molding characteristics and shape retention.
It is used to make paper cups for beverages, ice cream, and instant soup.
The acid-resistant cup base paper, which is a base paper for acidic foods, is used to make yogurt containers.

The paper has excellent wet strength and water resistance.

DREEP (parchment paper)
The paper has a unique semi-transparent appearance, while also resisting oil and serving decorative purposes.
It is used to make butter and margarine lid liners, food cups, inner packaging for confectionery gift boxes and the like.

OK Rain Guard
This product is water-repellent paper for offset printing, which was developed based on woodfree paper. It is an environmentally friendly product, made from 100% natural pulp.
This paper is used for the labels of envelopes and perishable foods, exterior packaging paper, golf score cards, and other purposes. It has unlimited potential applications.

Paper envelopes with mesh paper as buffer
Use of these envelopes for home delivery services permits acceptance of goods via home delivery boxes, mailboxes, or similar items, thereby reducing redeliveries. In addition, these envelopes are made of paper, with even the buffer being made from paper, which reduces dependence on plastics.

Green Wrap, the Recyclable, Moisture-proof Packaging Paper
Green Wrap is packaging paper that is mainly used to prevent copying paper from being exposed to moisture.
Unlike polyethylene-laminated moisture-proof packaging paper, which is disposed of as industrial waste, Green Wrap is an environmentally friendly packaging material that can be recycled and reused.
Used by numerous customers since its launch, this product meets the increasing demand for non-plastic products.
