Business Overview

The Printing and Communications Media Company handles an array of paper products used as information media, including newsprint, printing/publication paper, and communication paper.

Newsprint Business

The Oji Group holds approximately a 30% share of the newsprint market in Japan. In order to meet the needs of newspaper companies across Japan, we have continued to strive for quality improvements including sturdier paper to withstand high-speed rotary press printing and create a beautiful finish for color printing, which have garnered praise.

Domestic Business Strategies

Domestic Business Strategies

In addition to changes in the demand structure, such as the advance of ICT and lower advertising demand, we anticipate continued decline in the domestic market. Furthermore, competition has reached a new level of intensity as imported paper products gain a foothold and other supply structure changes take place. Within this strict environment, our cost structure is undergoing a fundamental transformation, which makes bolstering our international competitiveness one of the most pressing challenges for the Printing and Communications Media Business. As such, we are working to restructure our domestic manufacturing system and strengthen our international competitiveness by radical cost reductions.

Overseas Business Strategies

In the Chinese market, Jiangsu Oji Paper Nantong Mill is maintaining stable operations as an integrated plant of pulp and paper, while fulfilling its mission to provide constant supply to the market. The company plans to have a second dry pulp machine in operation at the end of fiscal 2017. We expect further improvements in cost competitiveness and significant contributions to Oji Group income.
