Renewable energy power generation business

We engage in the renewable energy power generation business to reduce environmental burdens.

The Oji Group operates a renewable energy power generation business using the feed-in tariff (FIT) system. We have established a solar power plant in Shiranuka-cho, Hokkaido and wood biomass power plants in Ebetsu-shi, Hokkaido, Hachinohe-shi, Aomori, Anan-shi, Tokushima and Nichinan-shi, Miyazaki.

Fuel for biomass power generation Domestic timber

Logs from mountain forests are processed into lumber and other products. We utilize low-quality wood, which is not appropriate for lumber, as a raw material for papermaking and a fuel for biomass power generation.
The use of timber from forest thinning and other unused resources for biomass power generation promotes forest management, contributes to national land conservation, and aids water source cultivation, carbon dioxide absorption and various other functions of forests. It also leads to the revitalization of regional forestry industries.

Fuel for biomass power generation Palm kernel shells (PKS)

While palm oil (a vegetable oil) is obtained from the fruit of the oil palm, the kernel shells that are left after the extraction of palm oil were previously disposed of as agricultural residue. Due to their low moisture content and high calorific value, however, these palm kernel shells (PKS) are attracting attention as biomass energy resource.
The Oji Group imports PKS from Indonesia and Malaysia and uses it as a biomass fuel.
