Film capacitors with high safety are used in the electric driving system of electrified vehicles, such as the inverter in the power control unit.A film capacitor can be more downsized as the thickness of the high-performance polypropylene film gets smaller, which is a main material of a film capacitor.
Globally, more attention is drawn to the question of how electrified vehicles in the future can be made to run a long distance with electricity only.Therefore, the trend in the design of film capacitor today is still towards high voltage and high current, so that electrified vehicles can obtain more powerful driving force. Higher dielectric strength is required for ultra-thin film to withstand high voltage.
Going ahead of this trend, Oji Group is developing the novel ultra-thin and high-voltage resistant polypropylene film with its proprietary technologies for the materials design and the film stretching process.
