Oji Holdings Corporation announces that Hiroyuki Isono, President and CEO of Oji Holdings Corporation, participated as a speaker at the “OECD Green Growth and Sustainable Development Forum,” held at the headquarters of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France, on July 2–3, 2025.
This international forum, held in advance of COP30※1, centered on the theme “Forests, agriculture and other land uses as a cornerstone of climate action.” It brought together government officials, international organizations, researchers, and private sector leaders from around the world for dynamic discussions on sustainable development.
During his presentation, Isono explained that Oji Holdings, Japan’s largest-class private forest owner (approximately 635,000 hectares), has been committed to sustainable forest management for over a century, guided by the corporate philosophy: “Those who use trees have the responsibility to plant trees.” He also highlighted that one-third of the company-owned forest is designated as conservation forest, and integrated management of production and conservation forest contributes to water resource protection, biodiversity conservation, and other vital ecosystem services.
Isono emphasized the need to visualize and quantify natural capital to ensure its proper economic evaluation in response to the challenge of underrecognized value of forests. He introduced examples of the forest valuation project in Hokkaido utilizing drones and sensors, and the efforts to advance natural capital assessment led by the International Sustainable Forestry Coalition (ISFC) ※2 established in 2023. Looking ahead, he expressed the company’s ambition to develop frameworks that put nature on the balance sheet, which is expected to accelerate nature-positive※3 with its enhanced economic evaluation.

Oji Holdings remains committed to addressing global environmental challenges and is dedicated to sustainable society through initiatives that enhance the value of forests for the future.
