Oji Holdings Joins the World Business Council for Sustainable Development

Oji Holdings Corporation (President: Hiroyuki Isono; Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter “Oji Holdings”) has joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Founded in 1995, WBCSD is a global community of over 240 of the world’s leading businesses driving systems transformation to limit the impact of the climate crisis, restore nature and tackle inequality.

Oji Holdings has joined WBCSD’s nature-focused program, the Nature Action Imperative, and will contribute to the development of the forthcoming Nature Measurement Protocol. Although a wide range of assessment methodologies has been developed to evaluate corporate dependencies and impacts on natural capital in response to differences in regional land use, climate conditions, and industry characteristics, a globally unified measurement standard has yet to be established.

To address this challenge, the Nature Positive Initiative (NPI), WBCSD, Capitals Coalition, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), and the World Resources Institute (WRI) have joined forces to develop a standardized global measurement framework for natural capital (the “Nature Measurement Protocol”). The protocol will be developed in phases, and as a member company of WBCSD, Oji Holdings will actively contribute to this process.

In addition, Oji Holdings will participate in multiple working groups under this program, including those focused on water stewardship(*1)  and financing Nature-based Solutions (NbS)(*2) , further strengthening its comprehensive approach to natural capital.

Oji Holdings owns and manages approximately 636,000 ha of forests in Japan and overseas and is committed to sustainable forest management. Through its engagement with WBCSD, the company will collaborate with fellow member companies and partner organizations to advance natural capital accounting and refine methodologies for visualizing forest value.
